2023 PHC AWARDS: Bauchi State Bags USD400,000 For Improved Quality Primary Health Care Service

Bauchi state has emerged as Runner up from the Northeastern sub region and one of the six best states in Nigeria in terms of best and quality primary healthcare services during the 2023 Primary Healthcare leadership challenge.

This development has yielded to a monetary reward of four hundred thousand US dollars which is equivalent to over one hundred and eighty five million Naira.

The state Deputy Governor, and Chairman state task force committee on primary healthcare Senator Baba Tela announced this during the 2023 first quarter task force meeting and award ceremony held on Saturday in Bauchi.

Senator Baba Tela said both the Money and a certificate of recognition given to Bauchi state was received by the state Governor Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir during a colorful ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday 17th day of May 2023.

He explained that among the major indicators which attract high score for the award is regular conduct of the state task force on primary healthcare quarterly meetings, prompt payment of the MoU counterpart funds and other obligations for quality primary healthcare services.

The deputy Governor, attributes the success to a collective efforts of Bauchi state government, members of the State task force, Traditional institution as well as development partners working in Bauchi state.

Baba Tela congratulates all the stakeholders involved and called on people of Bauchi state to continue to support the present administration’s policy in the healthcare whom are societal oriented.

Giving an overview on the status of implementation from the action points of the 2022 PHC retreat meeting, The executive chairman Bauchi state Primary Healthcare development agency Dr Rilwanu Muhammad stated that the state has recorded successes in some grey areas especially issue of Man power and facilities, healthcare financing as well community Leaders inclusion.

He added that the state PHC awards is meant to recognize the contribution and impact of individuals, Healthcare institution and personnel and urged the recipients to maintain the tempo for the benefits of the citizens.

Earlier in his address the state Commissioner for health Dr. Sabiu Abdu Gwalabe disclosed that Bauchi state government has identified some key areas that required more coordination and will work on them in order to surpass this year’s feat.

He commended the leadership of Senator Bala Muhammad Abdulkadir for prioritizing the healthcare sector which according to him can be seen from the budgetary allocation of above the Abuja declaration of 15%.

The recipients of the awards include the Best primary healthcare center, Best traditional institution across the six emirates councils, best performing staff as well as Best Local government in terms of Healthcare engagement.
