Breakthrough Trains Bauchi Journalists, Healthcare Officers On Use Of Social Media To Squash Misinformation About COVID-19 Vaccine

Breakthrough Action Nigeria has trained Bauchi journalists and healthcare professionals on the use of Social Media to debunk rumors about COVID-19 vaccine.

The training was designed to improve social media skills of reporters and healthcare personnel to use Social Media to promote COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among citizens of Bauchi State.

State Team Lead Breakthrough Action Nigeria Bauchi Field Office, Usman Muhammad Inuwa stated this while declaring the training open in Bauchi.

The State Team Lead explained that COVID-19 vaccine rejection among people of the state posed a great threat to efforts aimed at taming the spread of the pandemic, particularly with the recent appearance of Omicron, a dreaded Coronavirus variant.

He said that Social Media has the potency to reach millions of people at less cost.
He said that if properly utilized, Social Media can help improve access to healthcare service for the overall well-being of citizens of the state.

Mr Usman said that the skills acquired at the training will be relevant to other thematic areas Breakthrough Action Nigeria in collaboration with USAID is working on in the state.

He called on the participants to make best use of the skills acquired from the training towards helping Bauchi State to be a COVID-19 free state.

Some of the participants who spoke to Albarka Radio expressed their determination to apply the skills acquired from the training to promote COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among citizens of the state through active use of Social Media platforms.
