FOOD SECURITY: Group Trains One Thousand Wheat Farmers In Bauchi

One thousand Wheat farmers from six local government areas of Bauchi State have been trained on developing high yield Wheat seed.

The National Program Manager, Flour Milling Association of Nigeria, Aliyu Sama’ila, disclosed this while launching a loan scheme, during the Wheat farmers Greenfield day at Jama’are local government area of Bauchi State.

Aliyu Sama’ila who highlighted the advantages of the seed to include early maturity, as well as high resistance and tolerance to heat, noted that the specie was produced by the Lake Chad Research Institute with specific adaptation to different ecological zones of the country.

He listed other characteristics of the Wheat seed such as semi dwarf, responsive to fertiliser application with potentials of producing 4.5 to 7 tonnes per hectare.

Some of the farmers spoken to, Hajiya Rakiya Abubakar and Dauda Ahmad commended the association for the intervention and assured their readiness to repay the loan for the sustenance of the programme.
