2027 Politics: Gov Bala Mohammed Weighs ADC Option Amid PDP Turmoil

By Mubarak Aliyu Kobi

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has indicated a possible move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following deepening internal crises within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor made this known while receiving a high-powered delegation of the ADC in Bauchi.

The delegation, led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, said their visit was at the instance of the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark. According to the delegation, the move is part of efforts to unite opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the meeting, Babachir Lawal stressed the need for like-minded Nigerians to come together to address the country’s challenges, warning that failure to unite could worsen the nation’s socio-economic and security situation.

He described Governor Bala Mohammed as a courageous leader whose inclusion in the ADC would strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.

In his response, Governor Bala Mohammed acknowledged the internal challenges facing the PDP, describing the party as deeply divided and lacking clear direction.

He noted that despite several reconciliation efforts, including engagements with key stakeholders, the crisis has persisted without resolution.

The governor disclosed that consultations are ongoing, with committees set up both at the national and state levels to explore political options.

He explained that while the ADC currently appears to be a preferred platform, no final decision has been reached, as broader stakeholder engagement remains critical.

Bala Mohammed further revealed that he had made efforts to reconcile aggrieved members within the PDP, including reaching out to influential figures such as Nyesom Wike and engaging with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but the divisions within the party remained unresolved.

He assured that any eventual decision would be taken collectively with his supporters and political structure, emphasizing that his political movement would not be a personal one.

The governor added that a final position on the matter is expected to be announced after concluding consultations within the stipulated timeline.
