About 120 extension workers from Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna states have converged in Kano for a One Day training on the use of Commcare app under the Integrated Community-led Network of Hope (ICON 2) project of Women Farmers Advancements Network (WOFAN).
The training according to a consultant from Sane Konsult, Cham Yakubu is to arm the participants with the skills and principles of data collection, expose them on the use of Commcare for data collection, review the instruments to be used in the Co’operative and community partner registration and get feedback from them.
Agriculture Correspondent Muhammad Sani Muazu reports that the participants were issued tablets configured to contain the Commcare app, as well as power banks to allow for extended use.
Cham Yakubu added that apart from training the extension workers on how to use the Comcare software effectively, the training also reminded them about the ethics they should follow in conducting their work.
He added that the extension workers would also be equipped with requisite knowledge on how to take information of the community partners in their COMMCARE without any error.
Earlier speaking, the monitoring and evaluation officer of WOFAN Kano branch Sadiq Hassan Zakariyya hinted that the ICON 2 Project that is implemented in ten states of northern Nigeria tends to economically empower 675,000 women and youths of age bracket 18-35 years who will benefit from decent and sustainable livelihoods.
He affirmed that project will also support rural women to improve their agricultural practices, and to also enhance 22,500 farmer groups and producer associations to influence change processes and support economic advancement of youths in the implementing states.
Sadiq Hassan Zakariyya indicated that the first year of the project that is planned for five years has recorded a huge success, with the training of extension workers to kick-start the year 2 of the ICON 2 project.
On his part, Bauchi team lead of WOFAN Shafi’u Haladu Babaji said more farmers are expected to benefit from the project in year two as it is expanded to other local government areas of the state.
