Gwoza, Borno State — Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reinstated 23 health workers previously suspended for absenteeism at Gwoza General Hospital, while directing the deployment of four additional doctors and ten nurses to strengthen the facility’s medical team.
Dauda Iliya, the Special Adviser to Borno State Governor on Media in a press release said that the announcement was made during Governor Zulum’s inspection of the hospital’s newly renovated maternity and child center, where he also reviewed other ongoing improvement projects.
The workers had been suspended following the governor’s last visit, during which their absence from duty was noted. Addressing the staff, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of dedication to work, assuring them of better working conditions.
“Complaints were made about the 23 medical workers who were absent during my last visit,” the governor said. “The government has decided to pardon them, though no arrears will be paid.”
In response to staffing issues raised by Dr. Nuhu Nasiru Wakawa, Principal Medical Officer of Gwoza General Hospital, Governor Zulum instructed the immediate deployment of additional staff. He also revealed plans for the hospital to support training for nursing students from a new school of nursing under construction. “The Commissioner of Health and the Chief Medical Director of the Hospitals Management Board will oversee this deployment,” he added, highlighting efforts to recruit community health workers from Gwoza to further strengthen healthcare services.
As part of his visit, Governor Zulum also inspected a crusher plant base under construction in Pulka, designed to produce up to 300 tonnes of stones per hour to support road projects across the state. Additional stops included a 500-unit housing project in Wala B and a proposed site for a high Islamic school in Bama, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to infrastructure and educational development in Borno State.
