The Alumni Association of the Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bauchi, has called on the state government to rename the institution as Goodluck Jonathan College of Agriculture and General Studies, Bauchi State.
The appeal was made by the President of the association, Muhammad Sani Muazu, during a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi, on Saturday.
Muazu explained that renaming the college would enable it to access funding and other interventions from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), while also expanding its academic programs to include entrepreneurship and science-related courses.
He commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad for his efforts in rehabilitating the college, including the ongoing fencing project and other renovation works. According to Muazu, these initiatives are critical to restoring the institution’s dignity and functionality.
“We are grateful to His Excellency for prioritizing the College in his developmental agenda. The steps taken so far have already begun yielding results, with the institution set to offer more Higher National Diploma (HND) programs soon,” he said.
The association proposed naming the college after former President Goodluck Jonathan in recognition of his contributions to education and democracy. Muazu highlighted initiatives such as the Almajiri Education Programme, the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development (PRESSID), and the establishment of 12 new federal universities during Jonathan’s administration as evidence of his commitment to national development.
Muazu further noted that the proposed change would elevate the college’s status, align it with national standards, and open new opportunities for research and infrastructure development.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the growth and advancement of the institution and urged the state government to consider the proposed renaming as a strategic move to secure its future.
