The First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to supporting women and vulnerable groups as she led the distribution of 2025 Ramadan palliatives at the Government House, Bauchi.
Addressing beneficiaries at the event, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad emphasized that the initiative aligns with the tradition of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s administration, which prioritizes the welfare of citizens, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. She stated that the annual gesture is aimed at easing the hardship faced by women and vulnerable groups, enabling them to perform their religious obligations with ease.
The palliatives distributed included 500 bags each of rice, maize, and millet, 200 bags of sugar, and 50 cartons of vegetable oil. The First Lady encouraged the beneficiaries to appreciate the gesture by offering prayers for the state and national leaders, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.
While expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad used the occasion to highlight her concerns over the growing moral decay in society. She lamented recent tragic incidents in Bauchi, describing them as alarming and reflective of declining moral values. She cited disturbing cases, including a husband who killed his wife over a food dispute at the beginning of Ramadan, a 20-year-old son who murdered his biological mother in Abujan Kwata using a pestle, and a woman in Anguwan Sarakuna who strangled her co-wife and attempted to conceal the crime by pouring boiling water on her and burning the body.
Reacting to these incidents, the First Lady called on religious leaders, including ulamas and pastors, to intensify their efforts in educating the public on religious obligations, moral values, and the importance of peaceful coexistence. She emphasized the role of faith-based teachings in reforming society and discouraging criminal acts.
She also urged mothers to take greater responsibility in shaping the character of their children. According to her, the moral upbringing of children begins at home, and parents must remain vigilant about their children’s movements and activities. She stressed that as future leaders, children must be guided with discipline, values, and prayers to ensure a morally upright society.
Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad concluded her speech by appreciating the support and loyalty of the people, praying for Allah’s blessings and acceptance of all Ramadan supplications.
