The National Youth Wing of the Boi Progressive Association (BPA) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the decision of the Boi Council of Elders to remain under the Bauchi Emirate, rejecting inclusion in the newly established Sayawa Chiefdom.
In a statement issued on March 13, 2025, the BPA National Youth Wing emphasized that the decision aligns with the historical and cultural identity of the Ayaa people. The youth wing fully endorsed the declaration made by the Boi Council of Elders on February 10, 2025, which affirmed the community’s continued affiliation with the Bauchi Emirate.
According to the statement signed by Comrade Kalanyanta Kevin, National Youth Secretary, on behalf of Comrade Jonas Munaka, BPA National Youth Chairman, the decision reflects the community’s long-standing relationship with the Bauchi Emirate, dating back to 1820 when the traditional leadership of the Ayaa people was first established as a Hamlet Head under Yakubun Bauchi. It was later elevated to a Village Area in 1882 under Sarkin Bauchi Hassan II, reinforcing the deep historical ties with the Emirate for over 143 years.
While acknowledging the struggle of the Zaar (Sayawa) people for the creation of their Chiefdom, the BPA Youth Wing commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (CON) for his commitment to peaceful coexistence and inclusive governance. They noted that the governor had provided non-Sayawa-speaking communities the option to either join the Sayawa Chiefdom or remain under their existing leadership.
Exercising this right, the Ayaa community, through its Council of Elders, chose to stay under the Bauchi Emirate. However, the BPA Youth Wing also appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to grant the Boi Ayaa people their own separate chiefdom, arguing that such recognition would promote peace, stability, economic growth, and cultural preservation.
“As Ayaa youths, we proudly uphold our legacy and remain committed to working closely with the Bauchi Emirate, the State Government, and all stakeholders to advance our collective interests,” the statement read.
The BPA Youth Wing urged all Ayaa youths to remain united and peaceful while continuing to engage with relevant authorities to secure a future that aligns with their cultural heritage and aspirations.
