Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has directed for the utilization of local artisans like carpenters, welders, and other skilled craftsmen in government projects, as part of efforts to boost economic growth and empower the youth.
This move is coming on the heels of a successful vocational training program that equipped 800 youths and women with entrepreneurial skills in various trades.
The program, supported by the Federal Government and the African Development Bank, aimed to promote self-reliance and reduce dependence on government jobs.
The training initiative covered 22 vocational trades, including aluminum fabrication, electrical installation, computer maintenance, and GSM repairs, among others.
Upon completion, beneficiaries were presented with starter packs to enable them establish their own businesses and contribute to the state’s economic development.
Governor Bala Mohammed who was represented by his chief of staff Dr. Aminu Gamawa emphasized that the program is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing youth restiveness and promoting entrepreneurship.
The State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Garba Babaji Magaji, highlighted the importance of the starter packs in empowering beneficiaries to start their own businesses.
He commended the discipline and dedication of the trainees, urging them to utilize the tools and skills acquired to improve their livelihoods.
Magaji also praised the collaborative effort between the state government, Federal Government, and African Development Bank, which made the program possible.
In a remark The State Steering committee chairman of the program Alhaji Baba Isa Duguri opined that With the government’s support, the beneficiaries are poised to make a meaningful impact on the state’s economy and contribute to its growth and development.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to the press expressed gratitude for the opportunity to acquire new skills and receive support to start their own businesses, promising to make the most of the initiative and become self-reliant.
