Bauchi Youth Parliament Holds Induction Workshop, Leaders Urge Members to Embrace Purposeful Leadership

August 25, 2025 3 minutes read

By Muhammad Sani Muazu

The Bauchi State Youth Parliament (2nd Session) has officially commenced its induction workshop with a call on young parliamentarians to embrace discipline, integrity, and responsibility in shaping the future of the state. The workshop, held at the Yankari Game Reserve on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, attracted government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, and youth representatives from across the state.

In his welcoming address, the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Idris Musa, described the induction as a historic moment in the journey of Bauchi youth towards purposeful leadership and service. He noted that the gathering was not just a celebration, but a platform to prepare young leaders for the “discipline of governance and the courage that true leadership demands.”

He expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, for his support, describing his presence as symbolic of the strong bridge between the current leadership and future leaders. Musa also commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his vision in creating the platform, adding that it demonstrates that governance is not only about infrastructure but also about “building the dreams of young people who will one day carry the state into a brighter future.”

On his part, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, charged the parliamentarians to see the induction as a transition “from ambition to responsibility, and from potential to performance.” He stressed that the youth must use the platform for service and impact, not self-interest.

“You represent the voices and aspirations of millions of Bauchi youth. With honor comes responsibility. You are not here to warm seats, but to think, act, advocate, and inspire,” Gabarin said. He urged them to champion policies that promote skills development, innovation, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship.

Delivering the keynote address, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, congratulated the parliamentarians and described the event as a pivotal step toward inclusive governance and vibrant youth leadership. He emphasized that leadership that endures must be “informed, principled, and purpose-driven.”

“You are not stepping into roles for personal aggrandizement, but to amplify the voices of your constituents and contribute to a more accountable and prosperous Bauchi State,” he said.

The House Speaker further urged the parliamentarians to cultivate accountability, transparency, and integrity, while also learning relentlessly and collaborating widely. He assured them of the full support and mentorship of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The induction workshop, themed “Equipping the Bauchi State Youth Parliamentarians for Leadership Impact”, is expected to expose members to the structure, processes, and responsibilities of governance, while preparing them to serve as torchbearers of unity and progress for the state.
