Group refutes viral terrorism allegation video against Bauchi lawmaker

September 5, 2025 2 minutes read

By Umar Sani Yakubu

A political support group, Shehu Buba Umar Vanguard (SBU-Vanguard), has dismissed a viral video alleging terrorism links against the Chairman, Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba.

In a statement issued to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday, the Director-General of the group, Engineer Ishaq Dabo, described the video as fabricated, malicious, and politically motivated.

According to him, the video falsely accused Senator Buba of supporting and leading terrorist groups, an allegation he said was aimed at smearing the senator’s reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“These allegations are entirely untrue and a deliberate attempt to undermine Senator Shehu Buba’s integrity,” Dabo stated.

He noted that Senator Buba had consistently championed peace and dialogue, recalling his past engagements with Islamic clerics and community leaders in government-backed negotiations to restore security in troubled communities.

“Senator Buba’s commitment has always been to peaceful resolution, community security, and the welfare of Bauchi South. The video is nothing but the handiwork of irresponsible political actors threatened by his growing popularity and effectiveness,” Dabo said.

The group urged the public not to be misled by what it called a smear campaign.

“We call on our supporters to remain calm and avoid amplifying unverified material. Media organisations and social media platforms should investigate and take down the fake video, while citizens must observe media ethics and refrain from circulating content they cannot defend in court,” the statement added.

Dabo further disclosed that the group had begun documenting the circulation of the video and vowed to seek legal redress against those behind its production and dissemination.
