Access Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to sustainable community development with the donation of a Solar Powered Borehole to Inkil community in Bauchi State, a project aimed at improving access to clean water and enhancing public health outcomes at the grassroots.
The intervention, delivered through the Bank’s Retail Operations Group under its Corporate Social Responsibility framework, responds to the long-standing water challenges faced by residents of Inkil, where access to potable water has remained a daily struggle for many households.
Speaking during the commissioning of the project, the Zonal Head of Access Bank, Jamila Yelwa, said the initiative reflects the Bank’s broader vision of creating shared value and supporting communities beyond financial services. According to her, access to clean water is fundamental to human dignity, economic productivity, and sustainable living.
“Projects such as this are deliberately designed to address real community needs while promoting sustainability through renewable energy solutions,” she stated.
Also speaking, the Head of Operations, Mr. Moses Shichet, explained that the borehole was constructed using modern technology and powered by solar energy to ensure reliability and long term use. He noted that the facility was handed over to the community free of charge, stressing that the Bank expects strong community ownership to guarantee its durability.
In his remarks, the Mai Unguwa of Inkil community malam Aminu Yusuf Dalhatu expressed deep appreciation to Access Bank for the intervention, describing the borehole as a transformational project that would ease the burden on women and children who previously travelled long distances in search of water. He assured the Bank of the community’s commitment to protecting and properly maintaining the facility.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, youth representatives, and residents, many of whom described the project as timely and impactful. Beyond improving access to clean water, stakeholders noted that the borehole would contribute to better sanitation, reduced incidence of water borne diseases, and improved quality of life.
With this intervention in Inkil community, Access Bank continues to demonstrate how corporate institutions can play a vital role in advancing sustainable development and supporting underserved communities across Nigeria.
