Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), has matriculated a total of one thousand four hundred and eighty eight (1,488) newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Bala M. Audu, made this known at the 4th Matriculation Ceremony, held on Saturday, at the University premises.
Professor Bala Audu described matriculation as a compulsory academic tradition that confers bonafide student status, officially inducting the fresh students into the FUHSA community.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the students of the University’s full academic and moral support, emphasizing that FUHSA is committed to both knowledge acquisition and character development. He urged the students to be law-abiding, disciplined, and fully committed to their studies.
Professor Audu warned that the University maintains a zero-tolerance policy for social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, and truancy, stressing that violations would attract strict disciplinary measures as outlined in the Students’ Handbook.
According to him, the oath administered to the students signifies their commitment to uphold the laws, statutes, and standards of decorum of the University throughout their stay.
Professor Bala Audu revealed that 1,076 students were matriculated across 20 departments in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, while 109 students were admitted into Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and 49 students into the Dentistry programme. The total number of matriculating students comprises 551 males and 937 females.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUHSA also announced that the University Senate has approved the continuation of academic activities into the second semester without a break to make up for lost time.
On security, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University is working closely with security agencies, with plans to mount a military checkpoint near the main gate, conduct constant night patrols, and complete the construction of a perimeter fence around the female hostel.
Professor Audu acknowledged challenges relating to hostel accommodation, lecture halls, power, and water supply. He assured students that the University is implementing long-term solutions, including a solar power project supported by the African Development Bank, facilitated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
The Vice-Chancellor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the NELFUND Programme, which has enabled 1,798 FUHSA students to secure financial support, with their registration fees fully paid for the session.
He also expressed satisfaction to the Bauchi State Government for allocating an additional 500 hectares of land for the University’s permanent site, and to the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for constructing staff housing.
Professor Audu further appreciated Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare, for providing hostel accommodation and lecture halls through a Memorandum of Understanding, and the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, for supporting the clinical training of medical and dental students.
To this end, the Vice-Chancellor urged the newly admitted students to be good ambassadors of their families, the University, and Nigeria.
