The Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, has formally admitted 4,355 students into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Professor Garba announced this during the university’s matriculation ceremony held on Friday at the 1,000-seat capacity lecture theatre of the institution in Bauchi. The Vice-Chancellor described the occasion as a significant milestone in the academic journey of the newly admitted students, urging them to strive for excellence and uphold the values of the university.

Addressing the matriculating students, Professor Garba congratulated them for successfully securing admission into the university, noting that they emerged from a highly competitive admission process. He described ATBU as a centre of academic excellence committed to producing graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development through knowledge, innovation and character.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, cautioned the students against engaging in social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, examination malpractice and other acts capable of jeopardizing their academic future. He emphasized that the university maintains strict disciplinary measures against violations of its rules and advised the students to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the students’ handbook.

Professor Garba further encouraged the students to prioritize their academic work by taking advantage of the university’s facilities, including libraries, laboratories and digital learning resources. He urged them to remain disciplined, punctual and committed to their studies in order to achieve academic success.

Providing a breakdown of the newly admitted students, the Vice-Chancellor said 933 were admitted into the Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, 800 into the Faculty of Science, 726 into the Faculty of Environmental Technology, 526 into the Faculty of Computing, 388 into the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and 356 into the Faculty of Management Sciences.

According to him, 231 students were admitted into the Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, 288 into the Faculty of Technology Education, while 107 were admitted into the SPESSECE programme.

Professor Garba commended parents and guardians for their continued support and sacrifices in ensuring the education of their children, while also appreciating the efforts of staff members of the university in shaping the future of the students.

He concluded by congratulating the newly admitted students and welcoming them into the academic community of ATBU, urging them to make the most of the opportunities available to them.
