The Bauchi State Government has unveiled plans to establish a Ministry of Livestock Development to harness untapped resources in the sector and boost the state’s economy.

This announcement follows Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s pledge to reform the livestock sector during a meeting with the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Government House in Bauchi.

The Governor highlighted Bauchi’s peaceful environment and vast forests, emphasizing their potential to enhance food security and create job opportunities if properly utilized.

He further assured that his administration would provide the required manpower and resources to support federal government initiatives in the Sullubawa community of Bauchi Local Government Area, aimed at spurring economic growth in the region.

As part of the efforts, Governor Mohammed plans to establish a committee to design a blueprint for livestock sector reforms in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Co-chair of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, Professor Attahiru Jega, commended Governor Mohammed’s commitment to leveraging the livestock sector for economic development.

He noted that the committee’s visit to Bauchi was to engage stakeholders and raise awareness on the importance of livestock sector reforms. Professor Jega stressed that while the sector has been overlooked in the past, it has immense potential to drive national economic growth.

Albarka Radio correspondent Mubarak Aliyu Kobi reports that the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee was inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 19, 2024.

The committee’s mandate is to address challenges in the livestock sector and unlock its potential to improve the nation’s economy.
