A delegation from Dambam Local Government Area on Thursday appeared before the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriation to defend the council’s 2026 budget proposal. The undersigned, Zakariyya Aliyu Gwaram of the Information and Publication Directorate, BAHA, reports.
The budget defence session, chaired by Hon. Wanzam Mohammed of the Sakwa Constituency, involved a detailed review of the council’s fiscal estimates. The committee emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to thorough scrutiny and stressed attention to details in assessing the proposed budget in line with its legislative oversight responsibilities.
Speaking after the session, the council delegation led by Chairman Iliya Isah Dagauda explained that they were invited to justify the confidence reposed in them by the people. They highlighted that they provided clear explanations on all issues raised by the lawmakers and responded to all queries during the session.
According to the delegation, the Assembly committee provided technical guidance on certain aspects of the proposal, correcting areas where adjustments were necessary. They also noted that some observed discrepancies were not caused by the council’s direct actions but were related to information transmitted without the council’s knowledge. The committee reportedly promised to engage the relevant ministries to verify and ensure necessary corrections are made.
The delegation expressed appreciation to the legislative arm for its constructive engagement, describing the session as a demonstration of responsible governance and collaborative development. They prayed for the continued success of the administration of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, asking God Almighty to grant him success in both worldly and eternal endeavours.
Responding to questions on corrections made during the session, council representatives confirmed that some areas required amendments, which they pledged to follow up to ensure full compliance with the committee’s recommendations.
The total proposed budget of Dambam Local Government Area for 2026 stands at N8,517,565,697.00 (Eight billion, five hundred and seventeen million, five hundred and sixty-five thousand, six hundred and ninety-seven naira). The council affirmed its readiness to cooperate with the legislature and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of development programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
