Federal University of Sciences, Azare Gets New Name as Tinubu Honours Late Islamic Scholar

By Mubarak Aliyu Kobi

The Federal University of Sciences, Azare, has officially been renamed after the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The move places the legacy of the renowned cleric at the heart of a federal institution, reflecting his lasting impact on learning, discipline and spiritual guidance.

The decision was unveiled during President Tinubu’s visit to Bauchi State to commiserate with the family of the late Sheikh.

The President described the renaming as a symbolic way of preserving the values and teachings of a man whose influence transcended Bauchi State and reached far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

President Tinubu arrived in Bauchi via the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, where he was received by Governor Bala Mohammed, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, ministers, and other senior officials of government.

The visit attracted widespread attention from political leaders and community stakeholders.

Top government functionaries present included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, alongside other dignitaries who joined in welcoming the President to the state.

The presidential entourage featured the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Seyi Bola Tinubu, and several prominent personalities drawn from across the country.

Reacting to the development, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked President Tinubu for the visit and for honouring the memory of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi through the university’s new identity, noting that the gesture would inspire future generations and remain a source of pride for Bauchi State and the nation.
