Sarkin Arewan Bar-Bununu Urges Parents to Prioritise Children’s Education

By Muhammad Adamu

Parents in Bar-Bununu village of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been urged to prioritise the education of their children and wards for a better future.

The appeal was made by the Sarkin Arewan Bar-Bununu, Alhaji Ya’u Bawa, while speaking at this year’s Maulud Nabiy celebration held at his palace.

Alhaji Ya’u Bawa stressed the need for parents to ensure their children acquire both Islamic and Western education to enable them become self-reliant and productive members of society. He described education as the greatest legacy parents can bequeath to their children.

The traditional leader, who is also the Deputy Accountant-General of Bauchi State, recalled the difficulties people of his generation faced in their quest for knowledge, noting that unlike in the past, parents now have opportunities and are willing to support their children’s education.

He expressed concern over the rising trend of criminal activities among youths, attributing it to ignorance and idleness. He, therefore, advised young people to engage in legitimate ventures that would make them independent and responsible citizens.

Alhaji Ya’u Bawa also called on residents of Bar-Bununu and neighbouring communities to continue to live in peace and harmony, stressing that no society can achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos. He further urged the people to respect and pray for their leaders rather than engage in insults and criticisms.

The Sarkin Arewan Bar reaffirmed his commitment to support initiatives that promote peace, unity, and development in the community.

In his sermon at the event, Dr. Mujtaba Abdulkadir Jahun emphasised the need for parents to instil love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his companions, and his household in their children, describing it as a core duty of every Muslim. He cautioned Muslims against making derogatory remarks about the Prophet, warning that such acts could deny them salvation in the hereafter.

Dr. Mujtaba also prayed for Allah’s reward upon the traditional ruler for organising the Maulud. He appealed to the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to construct the road and bridge linking Bar-Bununu to Bununu, the headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government. He noted that the road becomes impassable during the rainy season, hampering the transportation of farm produce and other economic activities.

Another cleric, Sheikh Nasiru Ado Musa, urged the Muslim faithful to emulate the virtues of honesty, patience, generosity, and trustworthiness, as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in their daily lives. He also called on citizens to pray for leaders and the country to overcome the socio-economic challenges confronting the nation.

This year’s Maulud celebration attracted hundreds of worshippers from within Bar-Bununu and neighbouring communities, including Islamic scholars and renowned praise singers, who thrilled the gathering with songs of glorification of the Prophet.
