The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project recently convened a stakeholders’ engagement in Warji Local Government Area, aiming to inform and involve the community in upcoming initiatives designed to boost livestock productivity and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
Amina Garba Aliyu, the Social Safeguard Officer for L-PRES in Bauchi State, emphasized the importance of community involvement for the project’s success. “We see it imperative for you to be fully aware of the project for it to be successful and sustainable,” she stated. Aliyu highlighted plans to establish a conflict mitigation committee comprising representatives from the police, Department of State Services (DSS), farmers, and herders to address issues such as cattle route encroachment.
Musa Adamu One, the L-PRES Project Coordinator, outlined the project’s comprehensive plans across Bauchi State, noting Warji’s prominent role among the beneficiaries. He announced intentions to construct a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic and renovate existing facilities in Warji to prioritize animal health, which he linked directly to public health. “We have already sent the work plan to the World Bank and very soon we are coming back to start the project,” he added.
Representing the local government, Deputy Chairman Habibu Idris Tiyin conveyed gratitude for the initiative. “As you know that Warji is an agrarian community, and about 30% of the local government population are herders, so we can say the project belongs to us and it is a step in the right direction,” he remarked. Tiyin assured that the local government would employ personnel to maintain and safeguard the projects, ensuring their longevity.
