The staff of the Bauchi State House of Assembly have been charged to adopt modern parliamentary systems to enhance their performance and contribute to the development of the state.

The call was made by the Chairman of the Bauchi State Assembly Commission, Alhaji Bappah Haruna Disina, during the opening ceremony of a three-day capacity-building workshop for the assembly staff.

Speaking at the event, Disina emphasized the critical role of the legislature as an arm of government responsible for lawmaking, initiating debates, authorizing taxation, and overseeing government spending. He stressed the need for staff to embrace modern technologies and practices to optimize their performance and ensure efficient service delivery.

“The legislature plays a pivotal role in governance, and for it to function effectively, staff must be equipped with modern skills and tools. Embracing technology is no longer optional but a necessity for achieving optimum performance,” Disina stated.

The capacity-building workshop, organized by the Bauchi State Assembly Commission, aims to enhance the skills of staff in key areas such as modern chamber proceedings, legislative report writing, and committee activities.

According to Disina, the training is designed to equip staff with the knowledge and tools required to perform their duties more effectively and support the overall development of the state.

He further reiterated the commission’s commitment to continuous staff development through regular training programs and capacity-building initiatives.

Disina urged participants to take the workshop seriously and apply the knowledge gained to their daily responsibilities.

The three-day training is expected to improve legislative processes, enhance report-writing skills, and strengthen staff participation in committee activities by adopting modern parliamentary practices and technologies.

The Bauchi State House of Assembly aims to position itself as a more efficient and effective legislative institution, capable of meeting the evolving needs of the state.

This initiative underscores the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in governance, as the assembly strives to contribute to the growth and development of Bauchi State.
