Stakeholders have advocated for proper domestication of law to avert reoccurring human trafficking in Bauchi State.
This call was made at a one-day Media Parley organized by Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development, a Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organisation.
The parley, which was supported by Global Affairs Canada through Plan International Nigeria’s ASPIRE project, brought together media practitioners, traditional, and religious leaders to discuss ways to combat human trafficking, child labour, and gender-based violence in the state.
Mr Sulaiman Henna, Executive Director of Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development, emphasized the crucial role of the media, traditional, and religious leaders in preventing human trafficking.
He urged them to report any unusual movements within their respective communities.
Abdurrahman Abdullahi, Head of Operations at the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), noted that human trafficking is becoming increasingly prevalent in Bauchi State.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to address the issue.
Representatives of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemned human trafficking as an ungodly act.
They emphasized the importance of collective action to eradicate the practice.
The meeting included a panel discussion featuring a community leader, a legal practitioner, the Executive Director of RISD, and an officer from the National Orientation Agency.
