The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on eligible voters in Bauchi State to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to register, correct their personal details, and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Umar Ibrahim, made the appeal on Friday during a press briefing in Bauchi. He explained that the CVR is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the exercise will cover fresh voter registration, correction of personal information such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses, replacement of defaced or lost PVCs, transfer of voter registration within or across states, as well as collection of unclaimed PVCs from the 2022 registration.
Ibrahim disclosed that online pre-registration commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at designated centres across all local government areas of Bauchi State.
“Both online and physical registration will run concurrently until August 30, 2026. To be eligible, an applicant must be a Nigerian citizen, at least 18 years old, not previously registered, and physically present for biometric capture,” he said.
He added that while online registration can be done at cvr.inecnigeria.org at any time, physical registration will take place at the INEC state office and the 20 local government INEC offices, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
The REC further revealed that the Preliminary Register of Voters would be displayed every quarter for public scrutiny, allowing for corrections, objections, and claims to ensure only eligible names remain on the final register.
He warned against multiple or underage registration, proxy collection of PVCs, or obstruction of INEC officials, stressing that such offences carry stiff penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.
“I urge all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to make use of this opportunity. Register, update your records, and collect your PVCs. The Commission is committed to a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive registration process,” Ibrahim stated.
