October 11, 2025 2 minutes read

By Zainab Kassim Ibrahim

The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a discreet investigation into the killing of a police constable by a private soldier during a routine patrol in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the incident occurred on Friday, October 10, 2025, at about 10:35 p.m.

According to the statement, a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila was attacked by two individuals in front of Padimo Hotel, during which Constable Ukasha Mohammed (F/No 533164) was assaulted. The team responded immediately, arresting one of the suspects while the other fled the scene.

The arrested suspect was identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), attached to the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Haven in Jos, Plateau State.

However, at about 11:05 p.m., two other soldiers—Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654)—both partially dressed in military uniform and armed with rifles, arrived at the scene and allegedly shot Constable Ukasha in the chest before fleeing.

The injured officer was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

CSP Wakil disclosed that the suspects, Privates Yakubu Yahuza and Godspower Gabriel, have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has constituted a team of homicide investigators comprising seasoned detectives to conduct a professional and thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, the Commissioner prayed for the repose of the late officer’s soul and for Almighty Allah to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
