The First Lady of Bauchi State, Ambassador Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed, has urged women across the state to embrace entrepreneurship and creativity as tools for self-reliance and economic growth.
Dr. Aishatu made the call when she received members of the Bauchi State Association of Modern Bakers and Cake Makers during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Bauchi.
The First Lady, who is also the Founder of the Muhibbah Foundation and Chancellor of Muhibbah Open University, commended the group for promoting innovation among women, describing their initiative as vital for boosting family income and reducing unemployment.
According to her, the government alone cannot provide jobs for everyone; hence, empowering women and youths through vocational and creative skills remains one of the most effective ways of achieving self-reliance.
Dr. Aishatu, who shared her personal experience as an entrepreneur for over 30 years, disclosed that she started various small-scale businesses ranging from food production to ice block making, adding that entrepreneurship promotes peace and stability in homes.
“I have always encouraged women to engage in productive ventures because business gives independence, peace of mind, and the ability to support the home, especially in these challenging times,” she said.
She assured the visitors of her continued support and promised to attend their forthcoming Bauchi State Cake Exhibition, which aims to showcase local talent and innovation among bakers in the state.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairperson of the Association, Hajiya Asmau Ishaq Mohammed, said the visit was to formally inform the First Lady of their plan to host the state’s first-ever cake exhibition, similar to events held in Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, and other states.
She explained that the event would feature over one hundred bakers from across Bauchi State, providing an avenue for participants to demonstrate their creativity and learn from one another.
“We want Bauchi to be recognized just like other states where the cake industry is thriving. There are many young and upcoming bakers who need encouragement and visibility,” Hajiya Asmau stated.

She also appealed for the First Lady’s partnership and support to ensure the success of the exhibition and the continued growth of the baking industry in Bauchi.
