The ten-day Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign has been successfully concluded in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, recording 100 percent coverage.
The exercise, which was part of Phase II of the state-wide immunization campaign, commenced on October 18, 2025, and ended on a positive note, according to the Health Education Officer of Tafawa Balewa Local Government, Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Sambo.
Speaking with our reporter in Bununu, Alhaji Sambo described the campaign as one of the most successful health interventions in the area, attributing the achievement to the strong support and cooperation of traditional, religious, political, and community leaders.
He commended the Director of Primary Healthcare, Hajiya Maryam Hashimu, for her commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring the smooth implementation of the vaccination exercise.
According to him, the campaign, which is regarded as the largest in Africa’s history, required intense mobilization and coordination by the local government’s Primary Healthcare Department. Over 900 ad-hoc staff were engaged, in addition to supervisors who monitored the process across all wards in the area.
Alhaji Sambo further disclosed that supervisors from both the state and national levels, including a UNICEF Global Manager, visited Bununu, the headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government, to assess and support the exercise.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Tafawa Balewa, particularly traditional, religious, and political leaders, as well as the Education Department under the leadership of the Education Secretary, for their unwavering support.
The Health Education Officer urged residents to sustain their cooperation in future health campaigns to ensure a healthier and more resilient society.
