The Bauchi State Youth Parliament has dismissed as unfounded recent allegations linking Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to the financing of terrorism, describing the claims as dangerous, misleading and capable of undermining democratic stability in the state.
In a statement signed by the Speaker of the Bauchi State Youth Parliament (2nd Session), Rt. Hon. Mohammad Idris Musa, the youth body said the allegation was false, reckless and lacking any factual or legal basis, warning that the misuse of sensitive national security narratives to intimidate political opposition threatens public trust and democratic governance.
The parliament noted that Bauchi State has enjoyed relative peace and social stability under Governor Mohammed’s leadership, attributing this to deliberate investments in security coordination, community engagement and proactive response mechanisms. It said the state government has consistently worked with security agencies, traditional institutions and community stakeholders to prevent conflict, protect lives and maintain harmony across the state.
The youth body cautioned that associating a sitting governor, who has constitutional responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of citizens, with terrorism financing could endanger public peace. It warned that such allegations may create fear within communities, weaken confidence in governance and undermine the collective efforts of security agencies operating in Bauchi State.
From an economic perspective, the Youth Parliament said the claims could also damage the state’s growing investment profile. It noted that Bauchi is positioning itself as a business-friendly state, attracting interest in agriculture, solid minerals, commerce and small-scale enterprises. According to the statement, false security-related allegations risk discouraging investors, constraining job creation and negatively affecting the livelihoods and aspirations of young people.
The parliament further condemned what it described as attempts to weaponise federal institutions for political witch-hunting or to coerce opposition leaders through intimidation. It stressed that democracy must be anchored on fairness, due process and respect for political plurality, rather than selective pressure or political compulsion.
It added that governance should be judged by visible development outcomes, improved service delivery and the real impact of policies on citizens, rather than the harassment of political opponents, which it said weakens democratic culture and institutional credibility.
Reaffirming its solidarity with Governor Bala Mohammed, the Youth Parliament described him as a legitimate democratic leader and a consistent advocate for equity, justice and the welfare of the people of Bauchi State. It called on relevant authorities, the media, civil society organisations, religious leaders and residents of the state to reject misinformation, uphold due process and protect the integrity of democratic governance in Nigeria.
