The Nigeria Customs Service says it is working round the clock with development partners to uphold healthcare standards and improve the quality of medical services for customs officers and their families.
This was made by the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, during the commissioning of Abdul Samad Rabi’u/Nigeria Customs Service Hospital, Bauchi.
Bashir Adeniyi observed that the commissioning of the hospital would enhance the capacity of customs officers to effectively discharge their assigned responsibilities.
The Customs boss also commended the efforts of Abdul Samad Rabi’u Initiative Africa for its unwavering commitment to building and establishing the hospital, aimed at revitalising healthcare services within the Zone ‘D’ Headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service and the host community.
Adeniyi noted that medical personnel deployed to the hospital have undergone both local and international training, expressing confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired would positively impact the healthcare system of the Service.
In his welcome address, the Zonal Coordinator in charge of Zone ‘D’ Headquarters, Chukwudi Ogbonna, expressed optimism that the construction of the Abdul Samad Rabi’u/Nigeria Customs Service Hospital, Bauchi, would yield positive results and significantly improve healthcare outcomes for officers and their families.
He explained that the hospital comprises seven clinical departments, two non-clinical departments, and three specialised units.
Earlier in his remarks, the Founder ASR Africa and Executive Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabi’u who was represented by the Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, said the project, executed in July 2024, aims to improve the quality of healthcare for customs officers, their families, and the community surrounding the customs barracks in Yelwan Tudu, Bauchi.
Dr. Udoh further explained that ASR Africa, established in 2021, was created to address challenges affecting health, education, and social development across Africa through its 100 million US dollar fund, dedicated to sustainable development and renewal.
He urged customs officers and members of the host community to make proper use of the facility for the overall development of Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
