Bauchi Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Healthcare for Vulnerable Groups

By Muhammad Sani Muazu

The Bauchi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable residents across the state, with renewed focus on access to quality healthcare services.

The State Commissioner, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, stated this during a free medical outreach organised by the Bauchi State Government in collaboration with the African Medical Centre of Excellence.

The outreach programme took place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

Speaking at the event, Wanka explained that the programme is designed to reach more than 5,000 beneficiaries across the state, providing essential medical services such as heart screenings and other critical healthcare interventions.

She noted that the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to preventive healthcare, stressing that early diagnosis and prompt treatment are vital to reducing health complications and saving lives.

The commissioner further assured that the ministry would continue to collaborate with reputable medical institutions to ensure that vulnerable and underserved populations have sustained access to quality healthcare.

Earlier, the leader of the outreach team, Brian Deaver, said the programme was aimed at expanding access to specialised medical services for vulnerable and underserved communities.

He emphasised that regular medical checks remain one of the most effective ways of improving survival rates, especially in cases involving heart-related ailments and other non-communicable diseases.

Mr. Deaver added that beyond offering free specialist consultations, diagnostic screenings and referral services, the outreach also promotes collaboration between visiting medical experts and local health workers to facilitate skills transfer and ensure long-term impact.
