Bauchi PDP Crisis: Committee to Decide on Possible Exit or Continuation

By Mubarak Aliyu Kobi

A division has emerged among stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State following a high-level meeting convened by Governor Bala Mohammed to deliberate on the future of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at the Government House, brought together key party leaders from across the state to address the lingering internal crisis threatening the unity and stability of the PDP in Bauchi.

Sources at the meeting indicated that sharp differences in opinion were recorded among participants, highlighting the urgency for decisive action to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

After extensive deliberations, stakeholders unanimously agreed to constitute a high-powered committee tasked with examining the political future of the PDP in the state, including the possibility of either remaining in the party or exiting.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the State PDP Chairman, Samaila Adamu Burga, said: “We have resolved to set up a committee to critically examine the future of our party in Bauchi, including whether to remain in the PDP or take an alternative path. The committee has been given one week to submit its report for immediate action.”

He expressed optimism that the committee’s recommendations would help restore unity, strengthen party structures, and position the PDP for a more coordinated participation in the 2027 general elections.

The chairman further noted that the composition of the committee reflects a balance of experience and representation across various blocs within the party, aimed at ensuring fairness and inclusiveness in its recommendations.

Observers say the outcome of the committee’s assignment could significantly shape the political landscape in Bauchi State, especially as realignments continue to take center stage ahead of the 2027 polls.

Political analysts also believe that whatever decision is reached—whether to remain within the PDP or chart a new course—will have far-reaching implications not only for the party but for the broader dynamics of politics in Bauchi State.
