The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated the newly appointed executive members of the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) as part of efforts to ensure the safety and security of the state’s mining environment.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Natural Resources Development conference hall, was presided over by the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Hon. Muhammad Maiwada Bello. Speaking at the event, Bello emphasized the government’s commitment to managing natural resources effectively through collaboration with federal agencies.

“We are determined to harness the mineral resources potential of Bauchi State and promote economic growth,” he stated. “The inauguration of the MIREMCO executive members is a significant step towards protecting our environment, communities, and investors.”

He urged the committee members to uphold transparency, accountability, and adherence to the legal framework governing mining operations.

“I charge you to work in line with MIREMCO’s ethical guidelines and ensure that mining activities operate within the legal framework to safeguard community interests,” he added.

The appointment of MIREMCO members was approved by Governor Bala Mohammed in accordance with Section 19 (2-7) of the Nigerian Mineral and Mining Act 2007. The committee is tasked with liaising with mining communities and operators to enhance environmental safety and security.

In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chairman of MIREMCO, Alhaji Inuwa Bello Galoji, expressed gratitude to the governor and the commissioner for the opportunity to serve.

“We promise to work tirelessly to develop Bauchi State’s mineral resources while ensuring transparency and accountability,” Galoji said.

The inauguration is expected to strengthen the committee’s role in regulating mining activities and fostering sustainable mineral resource development in the state.

Dignitaries at the event included the Special Adviser on Solid Minerals to the Governor, Hon. Sunusi Khalipha Rishi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Alhaji Muhammad Mai Jama’a Dewu, as well as ministry officials and other stakeholders.
