March 6, 2026 2 minutes read

By Zakariyya Aliyu Gwaram

The Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Wanzam Mohammed (Sakwa constituency), has reviewed and received the 2026 budget proposal of Katagum Local Government Area, totaling N12,444,693,023.50 (Twelve billion, four hundred and forty-four million, six hundred and ninety-three thousand, twenty-three naira, fifty kobo).

The council, led by Deputy Chairman Misbahu Ibrahim Gwasamai, appeared before the committee in line with statutory requirements to present its fiscal estimates. Speaking after the session, Gwasamai said the lawmakers engaged the delegation in constructive deliberations, raising questions on various budgetary aspects, particularly on the activities of the Appropriation Committee, all of which were satisfactorily addressed.

He added that the Assembly made observations concerning the process of receiving statutory allocations and related financial matters. The committee recommended the adoption of a standard template to guide the management and receipt of allocations in the future.

Gwasamai noted that the council emphasized three key areas in its 2026 budget: capital projects for infrastructural development, payment of staff salaries and allowances, and the generation and prudent utilization of internally generated revenue.

He expressed optimism that Katagum LGA would continue to maintain a strong working relationship with the state legislature to ensure sustained development across the council and the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.

The council also affirmed its commitment to implementing development programmes aimed at enhancing service delivery and improving the living standards of residents. Chairman Hon. Yusuf Babayo Zaki is expected to oversee the execution of the budget once formally approved.
