The National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) has commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for what it described as an unprecedented intervention in student welfare through the 2024/2025 scholarship disbursement.
Addressing journalists in Bauchi, the NUBASS National President, Comrade Bello Ibrahim Aliyu, said the initiative marked a turning point in the educational development of the state.
According to him, a total of ₦945.25 million was approved for the scheme, out of which ₦800 million has already been released, leaving a balance of ₦145.25 million. He explained that 21,901 students applied, with 19,546 verified beneficiaries receiving ₦801.26 million across 154 tertiary institutions nationwide.
“This disbursement is historic, both in magnitude and in impact. It represents lives transformed, hope restored, and futures secured for Bauchi State students,” Aliyu said.
The NUBASS president also highlighted the Governor’s sponsorship of 100 Bauchi students to pursue advanced studies in China, noting that the first batch had already departed. He described the gesture as a bold step toward equipping Bauchi youths with global knowledge in science, technology, and innovation.
On security, Aliyu disclosed that the union had engaged security agencies following reported cases of insecurity around some campuses. He said the Bauchi State Police Command had approved the establishment of a police station at Wuntin Dada to safeguard students of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and surrounding communities, while also pledging increased patrols and surveillance.
The NUBASS president listed other achievements of his administration to include the renovation of the union’s secretariat after over a decade of neglect, distribution of free JAMB registration pins to indigent students, organization of a state-wide JAMB orientation programme, and hosting of the first-ever EduTech Conference in Bauchi.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for what he described as “consistent benevolence to the education sector,” stressing that the union would continue to advocate for student welfare and empowerment.
Aliyu expressed gratitude to his executives, security agencies, and Bauchi State students for their support, assuring them of NUBASS’s commitment to accountability and service.
“The future of Bauchi State students is bright because together we are shaping it with courage, unity, and vision,” he said.
