As flood disasters continue to pose a major challenge in some local government areas of Bauchi State, particularly Kirfi Local Government, the British Red Cross in collaboration with the Nigeria Red Cross Bauchi State Branch, has provided essential materials to over 2,000 community beneficiaries to enhance their capacity in flood response.
The items were distributed to help provide lasting solutions and strengthen early warning and preparedness measures in the event of flooding in the area.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Kirfi on Saturday, the Chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross, Bauchi State Branch, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar said the organization had trained volunteers on detecting early signs of flood disasters.

He described flooding as one of the most serious challenges affecting Kirfi Local Government, hence the need to equip community with materials that will enable them to assist communities during emergencies.
Aminu Abubakar also commended the Bauchi State Government for its efforts in supporting flood victims, assuring that the Red Cross will continue to complement the government’s initiatives by alleviating the suffering of affected residents.
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, represented by Adama Ibrahim, lauded the Nigeria Red Cross for the intervention and pledged the ministry’s commitment to continue supporting affected communities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Auwal Ahmad Cheledi promised to put the materials to effective use in combating flood disasters in Kirfi.

Items distributed include rain boots, torchlights, life jackets, chlorine, and other essential materials needed during emergencies
