Standard Organization of Nigeria Warns Public Against Consumption of Expired Food Items.

November 10, 2023 2 minutes read

By Muhammad Sani Mu’azu

Members of the public have been cautioned against consuming food items without checking the expiry date, so as to safeguard their health.

The zonal director of the standard organisation of Nigeria, northeast operation Alhaji Abba Adamu Bauchi made the call, as the organisation confiscated over five cartons each of Cheese Balls and Detergent in one of the ware houses In Bauchi.

While commending members of the public for the useful information that led to the seizure, the zonal director said the feat achieved will go a long way in saving public health.

Adamu Abba Bauchi asserted that the war against substandard products is a collective responsibility as Standard Organisation of Nigeria alone cannot win it, and appealed to members of the public to report substandard products so as to take necessary measures.

Also speaking, the state co’ordinator of SON, Bauchi Office Murtala Malami Sa’ad said the officials of the organisation will not relent, in their effort to ensuring that standardisation and quality assurance are maintained.

He warned marketers involved in this dastardly act to repent and surrender all their substandard and expired products to the organisation for good as SON will hunt them to face the full wrath of the law if they prove stubborn.

The state co’ordinator also expressed concern on how small shop owners in all the nooks and crannies of the state keep products for very long time in their shops, which will eventually expire and are sold to members of the public for consumption, at the detriment of their health.

Murtala Malami Sa’ad maintained that selling and consumption of expired products posed a significant threat to individuals health and emphasized the importance of being vigilant about all items before use.
