The Sahelian Youth Forum for Good Governance and Advocacy (SYFGGA) has thrown its weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for his recent decision to swear in local government caretaker committee chairmen, despite attempts by former chairmen to cling to power.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, Comrade Aminu Harsanu Guyaba, National President of SYFGGA, commended Governor Fubara for his “bold and commendable” decision, which demonstrates his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.
Guyaba highlighted Governor Fubara’s impressive achievements in infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, and economic empowerment, which have positively impacted the lives of Rivers State citizens.
He praised the governor’s dedication to serving the people and his unwavering commitment to the state’s progress and development.
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who himself served as a two-term governor, to use his good office to ensure that Governor Fubara is allowed to govern without undue interference.
SYFGGA urged the President to address this pressing issue, understanding the implications of external control over a governor and the potential harm it can cause to the state’s governance and development.
Furthermore, SYFGGA called on the National Assembly to urgently intervene in the matter, emphasizing the need to maintain the sanctity of democratic processes and ensure that the will of the people is respected.
The group also urged the newly appointed caretaker committee chairmen to perform their duties diligently and uphold the confidence reposed in them by Governor Fubara.
They stressed the importance of supporting the governor’s vision and ensuring the continued progress of Rivers State.
Guyaba assured the people of Rivers State that SYFGGA stands in solidarity with them and will continue to advocate for good governance and the rule of law.
He urged the people to remain calm and law-abiding, trusting in Governor Fubara’s commitment to their welfare and protection.
