Bauchi First Lady Organizes Interfaith Prayer for Peace and Righteous Living

By Zainab Faruk

The Office of the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, has organized a one-day interfaith prayer session aimed at promoting peace, moral renewal, and unity among citizens.

The program, with the theme “Seeking the Face of God for Righteous Living in Challenging Times,” brought together Christians and Muslims to pray and reflect on the values needed to strengthen society.

Speaking at the event, Her Excellency, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, who is also the First Queen of Bauchi, described the gathering as the second phase of the peace initiative spearheaded by her office. She explained that while the first edition focused on the Muslim Ummah, the present session centered on the Christian community—showing that peace is a shared aspiration across faiths.

“Peace is not the property of one religion, nor the desire of one community—it is the shared aspiration of all humanity,” she stated.

The First Lady noted that the world is going through profound economic, social, and moral challenges that require people to seek divine guidance, live righteously, and uphold moral values. According to her, both Islam and Christianity preach love, compassion, tolerance, and justice, which are essential for building a just and peaceful society.

While emphasizing the need for harmony between the two dominant faiths, Hajiya Aisha raised concern over rising cases of moral decadence, substance abuse, materialism, and youth involvement in violence. She also lamented the growing incidence of sexual abuse and exploitation, describing it as a grave injustice that must be confronted collectively.

“Our children and young women, who should be nurtured and protected, too often become victims of harassment, abuse, and violence. This is a stain on our conscience as a people,” she said, calling for stronger families and community vigilance to safeguard the vulnerable.

The First Lady stressed that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of values, safety, and justice in society. She called on religious leaders, families, and community stakeholders to work together towards a better and morally upright Bauchi State.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada, Member representing Bogoro Constituency at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, commended the First Lady for the timely initiative. He described prayer as the most powerful tool for addressing societal challenges.

“There is nothing greater than prayer, and this program has come at the time it is most needed. The prayer you have organized belongs to all of us, and I am certain that God Himself will reward you for the work you are doing in Bauchi State,” he said.

Hon. Nakwada also praised the First Lady’s mentorship and guidance for women, urging that her teachings be put into practice in families and communities.

“Your Excellency, the lessons you give to women are invaluable, and we are grateful. What you tell them should not remain as words but must be seen in action,” he added.

He further stressed the importance of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, saying that places of worship should not be used to divide people but to strengthen unity under God.

“Someone once told me that I built a mosque, and I replied by asking if the governor built a church. The truth is, I was only following the governor’s example. What matters most is peace. We must live together without discrimination and continue to pray, because we know the importance of prayer,” he concluded.

The interfaith prayer session featured heartfelt supplications for peace, unity, and divine guidance for Bauchi State and Nigeria at large.
