Citizens of Ningi/Warji Constituency Issue Ultimatum to Representative Over Transparency Concerns

By Abdulaziz Garba

Concerned citizens of Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency have issued a two-week ultimatum to their representative, Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga, demanding transparency and accountability regarding constituency funds and details of his achievements since assuming office. The ultimatum was conveyed in a letter signed by Comrade Sani Adamu, a youth activist, who emphasized the importance of transparency in rebuilding trust between elected officials and their constituents.

In the letter, the citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity on developmental projects in the constituency. They demanded a detailed report of all projects undertaken by Hon. Ranga, including the type of projects, their specific locations within the constituency, the total cost, and their current status—whether completed, ongoing, or abandoned. Additionally, the letter requests information about the contractors responsible for executing the projects, as well as timelines indicating the start and completion dates.

The citizens also called for a comprehensive breakdown of funds allocated to the constituency, insisting on accurate details of funds received from the National Assembly or any other government agency for development purposes. Furthermore, they requested Hon. Ranga’s strategic plans for the future development of the constituency, including upcoming projects, solutions to existing challenges in empowerment and education, and long-term strategies for sustained growth in the region.

The letter invokes the legal rights of citizens as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. Section 39(1) affirms the right to seek and receive information, while the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act empowers individuals to request and obtain public information about government activities. The letter also references the legal principle of mandamus, which obliges public officials to perform their duties and provide accountability to the people they represent.

To emphasize the urgency of their demands, the citizens gave Hon. Ranga a two-week ultimatum to respond. Failure to comply, they warned, would result in a mega press conference and a massive protest to demand transparency and accountability publicly. Comrade Sani Adamu reassured that hundreds of thousands of supporters in the constituency are ready to stand behind this cause to ensure the betterment of Ningi/Warji.

The letter has been copied to key stakeholders, including the Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed, the State PDP Chairman, the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Security, and various media organizations. Constituents are eagerly awaiting Hon. Ranga’s response, which they believe will reflect his commitment to addressing their concerns and fostering trust in his leadership.

This development underscores the growing demand for transparency and accountability in governance, with citizens taking active steps to hold their representatives accountable for the trust bestowed upon them.
