League of Northern Democrats Urges Federal Government to Address Niger’s Allegations Against Nigerian Officials

By Muhammad Sani Muazu

The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has called on the Nigerian government to address allegations made by the President of Niger Republic, which have sparked widespread concern. In a viral video, the Nigerien president accused France of supporting and equipping the Boko Haram insurgency and implicated prominent Nigerian officials, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ahmed Rufa’i, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

In a statement signed by Dr. Ladan Salihu, the LND expressed deep concern over these accusations, describing them as too significant to dismiss as mere diplomatic rhetoric. The group emphasized that the Nigerien president, as a sitting leader with access to sensitive intelligence, might be in possession of credible information.

The statement noted that the insurgency in Northern Nigeria has caused severe hardship, and the accusations, particularly against Nigerian officials, demand urgent and transparent clarification. “The unusually close ties between President Tinubu’s administration and France, including the signing of bilateral agreements, warrant further scrutiny,” the LND remarked.

The group called on the federal government and the individuals named in the accusations to provide clear, verifiable evidence to refute or clarify the claims. “Silence on this matter risks eroding public trust, especially in the North, which has borne the brunt of Boko Haram’s activities,” the statement added.

Additionally, the LND urged the National Assembly to set up an investigative committee to thoroughly probe the allegations. The group highlighted the need for transparency to restore confidence among citizens and demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and ensuring accountable leadership.

The League concluded by stressing that the matter transcends diplomatic relations and touches on Nigeria’s national security and collective future.
