Education has been described as the cornerstone of society, essential for nurturing young minds and securing a prosperous future for the nation.
This message was emphasized by the Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, during a ceremony for the distribution of 50,000 exercise books to schools in Bauchi State.
The books were donated by the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu.
Speaking at the event held at the Government House in Bauchi, Dr. Dahiru highlighted the significance of the donation, which she said reflects the unwavering dedication of the Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammad.
Hajiya Aishatu also serves as the Northeast Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, spearheaded by Oluremi Tinubu.
“The provision of these books is a testament to the commitment of our First Ladies to the advancement of education and the betterment of children in Bauchi State and the country at large,” Dr. Dahiru stated.
She described books as powerful tools that can open doors to knowledge, ignite imaginations, and inspire dreams, making them essential in shaping the intellect and character of students.
Dr. Dahiru also commended the inclusive approach of the distribution, which extended to Islamiyya and Tsangaya schools.
She noted that this gesture would encourage the integration of non-formal education sectors into the formal system.
Addressing teachers and school administrators, Dr. Dahiru urged them to see the books as valuable resources that complement their efforts to provide quality education. She called on them to demonstrate their commitment in distributing the books effectively.
She also encouraged students to view the books as precious gifts of knowledge that would aid their success.
The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammad, also spoke at the event. She praised Senator Oluremi Tinubu for initiating programs aimed at empowering women and girls to become educated and self-reliant.
Hajiya Aishatu highlighted previous initiatives under the Renewed Hope Initiative, including the distribution of five hundred thousand Naira each to twenty women farmers in Bauchi State and one hundred thousand Naira to each of 250 elderly citizens aged 60 and above.
Additionally, the initiative has seen the construction of a community ICT center and an alternative school for girls in Bauchi State.
