L-PRES Project Advocates Livestock Development in Alkaleri Local Government

By Muhammad Sani Muazu

In an advocacy visit to Alkaleri Local Government, the Bauchi State Project Officer of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, Musa Adamu One, introduced the program and highlighted its potential benefits to the area.

Speaking during the visit, Musa Adamu explained that the six-year L-PRES project, now in its second year, is designed to enhance the livestock value chain in Bauchi State. He noted that the project prioritizes Sheep, Goat, Beef, and Dairy value chains and emphasized its inclusivity, targeting not only herders but all stakeholders along the livestock value chain.

“This project is community-driven, and in all 20 local government areas of the state, we assess the needs of the communities in terms of livestock productivity. For Alkaleri, one of our key plans this year is to establish a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic to improve the animal agriculture sub-sector and safeguard public health,” he said.

The advocacy visit brought together key stakeholders, including directors, councilors, and traditional leaders, to discuss the project’s goals and address questions raised.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the representative of the District Head of Pali expressed the full support of traditional institutions in the area, assuring the L-PRES team of their commitment to ensuring the project’s success.

“This project is a welcome development as it aims to enhance the livestock sector in Alkaleri and the state at large,” he remarked.

Responding to the initiative, the Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government, Alhaji Garba Hassan Bajama, represented by the Counselor in charge of agriculture, Liti Ciroma, pledged the local government’s full cooperation.

“I want to assure you that Alkaleri Local Government is ever ready to give maximum support to any developmental project in the area,” Ciroma stated.

The L-PRES project seeks to transform livestock productivity across Bauchi State by addressing community-specific needs, fostering resilience, and promoting public health. With the backing of stakeholders in Alkaleri, the project is set to deliver significant benefits to the local livestock sector.
