The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a discreet investigation following the discovery of 387 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa at the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Wom Village, Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The accident, which occurred on October 4, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., involved two Toyota Corolla vehicles.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the first vehicle—a white Toyota Corolla with registration number ABC-459LF—was driven by Ali Muhammad, 45, of Nabardo Village. He was conveying the District Head of Nabardo, Alhaji Suleiman Bala Suleiman, aged 65, and members of his family from Bauchi to Nabardo.

The second vehicle, also a white Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA-155GW, was reportedly driven by an unidentified individual traveling from Jos, Plateau State, toward Bauchi. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver attempted to overtake other vehicles recklessly, leading to a head-on collision with the first vehicle.
All occupants of the two vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for treatment. The District Head suffered a leg fracture and is currently receiving medical attention, while other victims are responding to treatment and some have been discharged.
Wakil explained that during a search of the accident scene, detectives recovered 387 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, along with a black travel bag containing personal effects, two polythene bags with items, a black Tecno phone without a SIM card, a national driver’s license, and vehicle documents belonging to the driver of the second car.
The PPRO added that the recovered items have been forwarded to the State Investigation Department (S.I.D.) for forensic analysis, after which the case will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
He said efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the unidentified driver of the vehicle linked to the suspected narcotics.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed detectives to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspect. We urge anyone with useful information about the incident to come forward and assist the police,” Wakil stated.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state and assured residents that justice will be served in the matter.
