ATBU Invents Virtual Learning Application Software 

Researchers at the Faculty of Education Technology of the  Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa University Bauchi (ATBU), have invented iStem Pedal, mobile application software to facilitate distance and virtual learning.
The application is designed to allow students to continue having access to education in terms of an emergency such as was experienced in Nigeria during the wake of the spread of COVID-19 which resulted in school closure, thereby keeping students at home for several months.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Abdulaziz disclosed this during a sensitisation workshop for teachers themed: “A Workshop With End Users On The Utilization of Digital item Pedal For Mobile Devices” in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Professor Abdulaziz said the application was developed locally in the faculty of education technology of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad Danjuma said the application was developed with the support of the TetFund Grant, explaining that it will enhance the Nigerian system of teaching and learning.

He called on the participants to pay careful attention for observation and questions so as to understand what they are expected to acquire at the workshop.

The Vice-Chancellor added that now the world is moving and it would not wait for anyone, therefore what matters is for them to listen and know how to use and put into practice what they will learn.

Director Research and Innovation ATBU Bauchi Prof. Fatima Sawa who was represented by the Deputy Director of Research and Innovation of the University Prof. Balarabe Yushau charged the participants to put more effort into conducting research so as to bring new development for the betterment of all.

“The participants should be focused, and learn how to use iStem so as to be conversant with the global trend for better teaching and learning, urging them to strive and ensure that the system is integrated into the teaching and learning system in their various schools,” she said.

The participants numbered 50 were teachers from primary and junior secondary schools who are teaching Agric, Basic Science and Technology, Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
