Bauchi State Government has set up a state of the art mobile environmental enforcement court as part of the new strategy of ensuring total compliance with public health laws.
The Director-General, Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Dr Ibrahim Kabir announced this at the official commissioning ceremony of a mobile court hall and enforcement centre held at the agency’s premises in Bauchi.
Dr Ibrahim Kabir noted that, with the commissioning of the enforcement unit, the agency will enforce compliance on public health laws as any violator of the laws will be prosecuted.
According to him, environmental officers across the state with the coming up with mobile enforcement will work assiduously in order to curb the menace of environmental violation in the state.
“This mobile court is the first of its kind and it will give us the opportunity to regulate and checkmate the activities of the members of the public on environmental issues
With this commissioning, the people of Bauchi state will expect a new clean environment, BASEPA has a mandate to ensure clean environment for all in Bauchi state and for us to enforce compliance on environmental laws, we need a functional mobile court.
The BASEPA DG pointed out that, the current management of the agency has recently reviewed the environmental laws to strengthen the operational capacity of the agency and is working with 58 partners working with us on different activities.
The Registrar and CEO, Environmental Health Officers Registration Council (EHORECON), Dr Yakubu Mohammed Baba who commissioned the court enforcement center, applauded Governor Bala Mohammed for his investment in environmental health.
Dr Yakubu Baba called for proper utilization of the enforcement center and assured of the continued support of the council to the state government to achieve the desired objectives.
“Let me congratulate the Bauchi State Government under the able leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed and the political will exhibited by the Honorable Commissioner, Hamisu Mu’azu Shira and also the leadership style of the DG of BASEPA for this very important initiative.”
“For the BASEPA to achieve its new mandate and objectives, the Council is calling on the Honorable Commissioner to chair a technical session with the support of the Council to ensure the domestication of Public Health Laws in Bauchi which will help the environmental health practitioners in the state to consolidate on the gains put in place by His Excellency, the Governor.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Hamisu Mu’azu Shira, expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his support to the Ministry to discharge its responsibilities effectively.
Honorable Hamisu Shira commended BASEPA for living up to expectations and assured to work together to enforce compliance on environmental laws for a clean environment.
