Education Secretary Hails Creation of New Emirates in Bauchi

By Muhammad Sani Muazu

The creation of additional emirates and districts in Bauchi State has been described as a step in the right direction towards promoting peace, unity, and development.

A renowned educationist and Education Secretary of Ningi Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim J. Ibrahim, made the assertion in an exclusive interview with our reporter, saying the decision by the Bauchi State Government was well thought out, patriotic, and forward-looking.

According to him, the establishment of the new emirates will accelerate socio-economic development and strengthen harmonious coexistence among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state.

Alhaji Ibrahim emphasized that the move was not intended to humiliate anyone or give undue advantage to certain groups but to ensure inclusive governance and bring development closer to the people.

While congratulating the new Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, on his well-deserved appointment as a first-class traditional ruler, and the Emir of Bununu, Barrister J.D. Hassan, Alhaji Ibrahim praised their records of service and commitment to humanity.

He urged those who may feel aggrieved by the government’s decision to accept it in good faith, describing it as divine providence aimed at bringing governance nearer to the grassroots.

Reflecting on the historical evolution of traditional institutions in the state, the Education Secretary recalled that Bauchi had only six emirates since 1976. He noted that even Gombe State, which was carved out of Bauchi in 1996, now boasts eleven emirates, adding that the new creations in Bauchi were long overdue.

On the issue of alleged marginalization by some tribes, Alhaji Ibrahim said it is difficult for any leader to satisfy everyone, stressing that the majority of citizens welcomed the development with joy and optimism.

He also recalled that in the past, traditional leaders played a vital role in managing the education system, including teacher recruitment and postings, due to their closeness to the people.

Alhaji Ibrahim commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his foresight and courage in selecting reputable individuals with proven integrity to head the new emirates. He urged the new traditional rulers to discharge their duties with fairness and justice.

He concluded with prayers for divine guidance, protection, and the continued strengthening of the traditional institution in Bauchi State.
