Bauchi State Action Committee on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Advocates for Mobile Court to Expedite Justice
The Bauchi state action committee of sexual and gender based Violence has appealed for the establishment of a mobile court to ensure speedy dispensation of justice for SGBV cases.
The chairperson of the committee and also the Bauchi state first lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammad made the pledge when she lead members of the committee and other stakeholders on a courtesy visit to the Bauchi state governor.
According to her, when the mobile court is established, it will ensure that all offenders of Sexual and Gender Based Violence faced full wrath of the law without any delay, and that will serve as a deterrent to others and as such reduce the negative trend.
She also narrated some successes recorded by the state action committee in the last three years of its inception, which include the establishment of sexual assaults referral centre at the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital which provides free and confidential medical services to survivors of GBV in line with standard operational procedures.
The first lady not that her committee also embarked on a state-wide sensitisation on GBV, provides legal services to survivors, and also completed shelter safe spaces at the Sani Abacha rehabilitation center Bauchi, which serves as a temporary home for the survivors of SGBV.
While commending the Bauchi state governor for his enormous support to the committee, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad also appealed to the governor to assist the committee with a vehicle to ease its difficulty during sensitisation and visitation to GBV survivors.
Responding, governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad expressed worry on the prevalence of gender based violence particularly in Bauchi and the country in general, hence the need for all and sundry to bring an end to the ugly and immoral trend.
The governor assured the total support of the state government through collaborating with the state assembly to make laws that will ensure that violence against children is stopped.
