Windstorm Destroys Over 200 Houses In Bauchi

A heavy windstorm accompanied by rainfall has destroyed over 200 houses and buildings in Misau town, the headquarters of the Misau local government area of Bauchi State.
LEADERSHIP reports that The heavy windstorm occurred Sunday evening when many housewives were busy preparing evening dinner.
One of the victims, Malam Kawu Mamuda whose two rooms were destroyed told our correspondent that he is concerned about where his family will sleep pending the reconstruction of his house.
“My wife was busy in the kitchen preparing food when the windstorm started. She had to hurriedly put off the fire and look for the children who were playing outside. They were inside the room when they heard the loud sound of the other room collapsing. They hurriedly rushed outside drenched,” he explained.
Another victim Bello Abubakar said he spend all his savings to build a house now lost to the windstorm.
“I consider it as an act of God. The nature of the damage is high, many houses were either destroyed or their roofing blown away,” he said.
He added that, “Many people can not afford to rebuild or repair their houses, as you can see most of the victims here are poor people, they can’t even afford to have three square meals talkless of building a house now. We are appealing to authorities concerned to come to our aid.”
Reacting to the incident via a Facebook post, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed enjoyed the victims to take it as an act of God while appealing to the people to plant trees in order to check deforestation.
“I sympathized with the people of Misau Emirate over the heavy windstorm that, destroyed many houses and many properties lost”.
“In order to prevent environmental pollution, am calling on the people of Bauchi State to borrow a leave from our forefathers’ habit of planting trees and preserve the existing ones,” the governor said.
