WOFAN Holds 2025 Wet Season Brown Field and Produce Exhibition in Baraza

The Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) has held its 2025 Bauchi Wet Season Brown Field Day and Exhibition of Processed Produce at the Baraza Makeshift Centre in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The event, which brought together community partners, women farmer groups, and agricultural stakeholders, marked the end of the farming season and showcased the results of WOFAN’s interventions in enhancing productivity and reducing post-harvest losses among women farmers.

Speaking at the event, the Regional Agronomist for WOFAN, Dr. Haruna Zakari, said the annual Brown Field Day was designed to celebrate the harvest period and assess the progress made by WOFAN-supported communities across the country.

“The essence of this occasion is what we call the Brown Field Day. We usually conduct this every year after the season has come to an end to mark the harvest period. We come to share with our community partners, identify with them, and look at what they have achieved based on our partnership,” Dr. Zakari said.

“We also assess the potentials of the harvest and provide guidance on how to enhance the harvesting process and reduce post-harvest losses on the products planted this season,” he added.

In his remarks, the Village Head of Baraza, Alhaji Abdulkadir Buba Baraza, commended WOFAN for its impact on women in the community, describing the organization as a trusted partner in development.

“WOFAN’s activities have made a significant impact on our women. We have seen positive changes and progress in our community. I have known the leadership of WOFAN for over twenty years, and I can say they are consistent in their support for rural women,” the traditional leader stated.

Also speaking, the WOFAN Team Lead in Bauchi, Shafi’u Haladu Babaji, welcomed participants and expressed delight over the active participation of new women groups from the state.

“We are happy to have new groups joining us this year. From this kind of gathering, you will get to see what your fellow farmers are doing before we proceed to visit their makeshift centre to witness their processing activities,” he explained.

During a visit to the Baraza Makeshift Centre, the Development and Business Manager of WOFAN, Mr. Taiwo Olawale, interacted with women beneficiaries who shared their experiences and challenges. He assured them of continued support and offered practical advice on improving their processing techniques and market linkages.

The Brown Field Day and Exhibition is part of WOFAN’s broader initiative to promote sustainable agriculture, empower rural women, and strengthen community-based agricultural value chains across Nigeria.
