Governor Presents Amendment Bill to Bauchi Assembly, Lawmaker Raises Concern Over Sayawa Chiefdom Headquarters

By Muhammad Adamu

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has submitted a proposed amendment to the Bauchi State Physical Planning and Development Control Board Law 2022 to the State House of Assembly.

The governor’s letter was presented to the assembly by the Majority Leader, Saleh Hodi Jibir, during a plenary session chaired by the Speaker, Abubakar Y. Suleiman. The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, Bala Abdu Rishi.

In a separate development, the member representing Lere/Bula constituency, Abdulrashid Adamu Mu’azu, raised a matter of urgent public importance regarding the proposed location of the Sayawa chiefdom headquarters.

Speaking during the session, Mu’azu informed the lawmakers that his constituents and other stakeholders had appealed for the reconsideration of the proposed siting of the chiefdom headquarters in Tafawa Balewa town. He emphasized that while the people of the area welcome the creation of the Sayawa chiefdom, they recommend that the headquarters be established in an alternative location.

The lawmaker further noted that past administrations had set up committees to deliberate on the matter, with most reports suggesting other areas outside Tafawa Balewa town as the preferred site for the chiefdom headquarters.

In his ruling, Speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman stated that the assembly had already addressed the issue by recommending that the chiefdom be established in a suitable location other than Tafawa Balewa town. He added that the final decision regarding the creation of the Sayawa chiefdom now rests with the state government.
