The Bauchi State Police Command has intensified security in Bogoro town of Bauchi State ahead of the planned 21st Baba Gonto memorial lecture and book launch, WikkiTimes can report.
The memorial lecture which is scheduled to hold between December 30th and 31st has sparked conflicting interests jostling to earn credit for organising the event.
Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil in a statement issued to reporters in Bauchi on Wednesday said the decision to tidy up security in Bogoro, the headquarters of Boforo local government area of Bauchi State followed a letter of request to the Commissioner of Police Umar Mamman Sanda by Zaar Community to that effect.
He said police are ordered to decisively deal with any group making efforts to disrupt the peaceful observance of the lecture and book launch.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda has ordered the full deployment of Police tactical teams to provide security to lives and properties before, during and after the event.
“He consequently ordered officers and men of the Command to intensify efforts in resisting and curtailing any act of lawlessness, oppression or intimidation from any group of persons and warned officers to be professional while discharging their duties,” the statement read in part.
The Command urged the Zaar people of Tafawabalewa and Bogoro local government areas to be law-abiding as they used to during and after the event in the overall interest of peace in the area.
“Law-abiding citizens of the state particularly, the people of Bogoro/ Tafawa Balewa Local Governments not to panic but go about their normal businesses and stay away from all forms of crime and criminality.”
